unravel 2020: our top tips for making the best of the festival

We are beyond excited to welcome you to this year’s unravel… a festival of yarn! 2020 is our largest unravel to date, featuring over 80 exhibitors and makers to explore spread out across eight rooms here at the Maltings.

To help you have the best day out ever, we’ve put together some top tips for you:

Wear something you’ve made

Whether it’s a jumper or a shawl, maybe a hat or a cowl, show your pride as a maker by wearing something you’ve knit or crocheted (or woven or spun!). Bonus points if you can remember the name of the pattern/project/designer, or if you’ve designed your own! Wearing something you’ve made is a great conversation starter when meeting other like-minded makers at the festival, be it in the queue to get in, while having a snack in our cafe, or chilling out in the Inner Yarn Sanctum and listening to a talk.

Advance ticket? No problem!

Bypass the queues to get in (or wait in a shorter one for advance ticket holders). With your advance ticket either printed or on your phone we can get you into the festival that much faster with our scanners – getting you to those yarn fumes even sooner!

Advance tickets are only available until midnight on Thursday, 20 February so get them while you still can!

Make a list, check it twice

Just like Father Christmas, do your research! Have a look at our exhibitors list to learn more about each maker and what they might be bringing to the show. Or better yet, why not download a digital version of our show guide that you can have on your mobile device to refer to? Alternatively you can print out our simplified version which has the floorplans for each room of exhibitors, plus a handy page for making notes about your favourites and must-sees!

Challenge yourself by learning a new skill

Our workshop programme this year welcomes indie designers and tutors from Canada, the Netherlands, Austria, England and Scotland. Check in with our Box Office to see what workshops still have space to book on to if you fancy learning something new. Many of our workshops have yarn provided for them thanks to the generous support of our sponsors.

Memorialise your visit with our merch!

Tote away your new yarn and other stash acquisitions with one of our new unravel bags. We’ve got unravel patches and hipster knitting sheep cards too. All of our festival merchandise is in limited quantities so if you want a souvenir from the show, grab them before they’re gone! Our merchandise is only available at the show.

Pack a social project

If you’re taking some down time away from the the marketplace floor, why not relax in our Inner Yarn Sanctum or enjoy the seating area in our marquee just off the foyer? We’ll have seating if you want to sit for a spell with your making – nothing too complicated, of course! Also in the marquee you’ll find our Chain Gang, Zoe and Kim, answering your crochet questions, and the weavers and spinners of the West Surrey Spinners Weavers and Dyers guild doing demonstrations and answering questions.

Share the love

However you choose to enjoy the festival, we hope that you’ll share your photos with us on Instagram! Tag us in (we’re @unravelfestival – give us a follow if you aren’t already!), and use the hashtags #unravelfestival #unravelfestival2020 so that we can see your pics!

Any questions?

Check in with the Craft Team and/or our amazing volunteers at the Info Desk in the foyer if you have any questions during the show. We’ve also got some handy information for visitors on our website too that you might find helpful.

Have a great festival! #lovelocalyarn #lovelocalmakers
