Just what is a KAL or CAL? Why a knit-a-long or crochet-a-long, of course!
With Christmas just around the corner we know that many makers will be breathing a sigh of relief to have their gift knitting or crocheting over and done with as of 26 December and be looking longingly to January when they can indulge in a project just for them. We’ve got just the thing!
Perhaps you’ve heard of the “Rhinebeck Sweater” – a jumper or other woolly object knit in anticipation of the New York Sheep and Wool festival in the States, and which generally heralds cooler temperatures and a chance to break out the woollies show off one’s most recent makes!
We thought it sounded like an incredibly productive way to countdown to a yarn festival so we’re organising an unravel KAL/CAL with a mass cast-on on Thu 02 January 2020. Care to join us? We’ll also be casting on in person at the Farnham Maltings in the foyer between 11am and 1pm on 02 January if you’re local and want to get in on the fun.
This is a personal challenge so feel free to cast on for whatever suits you best! Socks, a shawl, a sweater, cowl or whatever tickles your fancy. Just be ready to wear it to unravel to show off your latest finish! Take the time now to find a project and prep for yarn you might need, or use this as an opportunity to dive deep into stash and use up something to make space for a new purchase during the festival! We won’t judge!
Share your progress with us on Instagram and tag us (we’re @unravelfestival if you’re not following us already!). Use the hashtags #unravelfestivalmakes #unravelfestival and #unravelfestival2020 so that we can follow along and see how you’re doing! We’ll share our own makes too!
