Sewing for Good Causes: Dress a Girl Around the World and other social projects
Alice Butcher, sewing author and Maltings tutor from Alice and Ginny and some students from Alice and Ginny classes, will share their passion for sewing and its social benefits with a Sewing for Good Causes exhibition space. Learn about and contribute to the ‘Dress a Girl around the World’ campaign as well as other social projects with their foundations in sewing and textiles.
Dress a Girl Around the World is about making and distributing new dresses and shorts for children in poverty in the developing world. For further information about the project please look here . Alice and her students will be on hand to demonstrate how to make the dresses and shorts and to talk more about the campaign itself.
Can you help the Dress A Girl Around the World campaign at thread 2016? We are looking for material donations with which to make the dresses and shorts.
Could you donate any of the following :
- good quality 100% woven cotton fabric in 1 metre lengths or pillowcases- must be clean, stain free, non transparent and with no potentially culturally specific imagery or wording please.
- 2cm wide elastic (40cm for a dress or 60cm for a pair of shorts)
- 2.5cm wide single fold Bias binding (2m for each dress)
- Sewing thread – assorted colours.
Or make the dresses or shorts yourself

Please mark your parcel ‘Dress a Girl Around the World’. If you are donating materials or dresses/ shorts on the day please hand these in at the Information Desk,located in the Box Office foyer. Thank you for your support.
