About the event

The date is Sunday 2 July – the same day as the Farnham Bike Ride and Sportive – and the ambition is to create a celebration of cycling that spreads across the town with the Maltings as the ‘velo village’, hosting trade stands, displays, competitions, films, workshops, cycle jumble in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.

The hill climb proved a hit last year and will be run again this year, and we’re working with our local cycling club VC Meudon, sponsors, and the Town, Borough and County Councils to ensure that we are able to stage a closed-road crit in the evening.

Call for Exhibitors

Farnham festival of cycling offers well-established companies, independent companies and first-time exhibitors the opportunity to show, demonstrate and sell their products and/or services. We also welcome applications from professionals seeking to give a talk, or hold a workshop, book signing or drop-in sessions.

About Farnham Maltings

Farnham Maltings is a creative organisation that works with artists and communities to encourage people to make, see and enjoy the best art possible. Set in the heart of Farnham we offer a varied programme including theatre, cinema, craft, music and workshops and we host a wide range of resident crafts makers and theatre and dance companies. ‘Bike’ is a new event in our festival programme. Our other established festivals include ‘unravel: a festival of knitting’, ‘thread: a festival of textiles’ and ‘festival of crafts’ – which attracts an annual audience of over 6,000 visitors. We are a 2 minute walk from the town centre where there are plenty of public car parks. Farnham train station is a 5 minute walk away with trains to and from London Waterloo running every 30 minutes and under an hour’s journey.

Why exhibit at Farnham Maltings?

The Maltings is an historic 18th century brewery with a number of beautiful beamed rooms and outdoor spaces. ‘Bike’ takes place during the Tour de France, so we will be capitalising on Tour excitement with a program of events taking place though out the day. We have a cinema which seats 120 and will be showing classic cycling films during the festival. The event is being publicised on the Farnham Matings website, our Facebook event page  and on Instagram and Twitter. Prior to our festivals we erect banners on our building and across the road in the town centre. We are distributing 10,000 A6 postcards, and every visitor to the event will be given a programme in which the stallholders’ details are published. Our spring season brochure, which has a circulation of 14,000, will carry a full page advert publicising the festival.

Farnham and cycling

Farnham and the surrounding area is home to enthusiastic cyclists from commuters to road racers and everything in between. There are two independent bike shops in the town, and we have fantastic road and off-road riding on our doorstep, with riders enjoying the nearby challenges of the Surrey Hills AONB and the South Downs National Park, and families making the most of the nearby Bourne Woods and Alice Holt Forest. Local cycling clubs include VC Meudon, Farnham Road Club, Charlotteville, Farnborough & Camberley CC and the Farnham Triathlon Club. Competitive mountain bikers enjoy the local Gorrick and Southern XC race series, road racing takes place locally at Dunsfold, Eelmoor and Cutmill, and in the TT season there are regular events on the A31. The Round Table organises the annual Farnham Charity Bike Ride which attracted 1,300 entrants in 2016.

Farnham festival of cycling is a curated festival; stands are not selected on a first-come first-serve basis. Selection is made by a panel.
