‘Intuitive Stitching’ (2018 – 2019) by Beth Hopkins
Beth Hopkins is an emerging visual artist based in Surrey. She works in a variety of media, including textiles, drawing and sculpture.
For Beth, stitch is a form of drawing. Working intuitively, she builds up a dense flow of marks that spread across the fabric, from which faces sometimes emerge. The unconscious is a guiding force in Beth’s work, she absorbs herself in the process of stitching without controlling the outcome.
Beth is currently an artist in residence at the Bethlem Gallery in Beckenham, with an exhibition about art and value opening on 12th June. You can see more of her work here: bethhopkinsart.blogspot.com/
