Beginners’ Weaving with Rebecca Harvey-Browne
Saturday 23rd February 9 am-12 pm
Sunday 24th February 9.30 am-12. 30 pm
This beginner’s workshop will allow you to try weaving various weave structures on a pre-warped 8 shaft Table Loom and give you the basics of how fabric is constructed. You will be able to choose from a variety of yarns to design and weave your very own piece of fabric which you can take home.
With only four Table Looms running per session, it allows hands on help and freedom to ask as many questions as you like! Ideal for complete beginners or those wanting a refresher in weaving.
During the session, we shall talk through the weaving process, how the loom has been set up and an explanation given of different structures you can try during the session. You will then be able to start weaving, exploring yarns and structures and the option will then be given to weave one larger sample, using your favourite structures and colours.
Notes, any additional info, what do people need to bring? None
Tutor biography: Rebecca Harvey-Browne
Ten years ago, after graduating from UCA Farnham with a First Class Honours degree in Woven Textiles, I was selected as 1 of 24 graduates from across the U.K. for Texprint, which allowed me to promote my work in Paris. After selling designs to Italian Fashion House ‘Etro’, I was inspired to pursue a career in Textiles. I have since worked in the Textile Design industry working at the prestigious Colefax & Fowler in Quality Control, as Samples Manager and Operations Manager.
Throughout my time spent in the commercial industry, I continued to create my own designs and products. Being hands on is where my passion lies; whether that’s through designing and creating my own beautiful fabrics or demonstrating to others this specialist craft .
By running the workshops, it allows others to learn how to make their very own piece of fabric and to keep this traditional craft alive.
